Google to develop Instant Messaging?

If you believe some comments made recently in forums, discussion boards and blogs, Google would be developing an instant messaging solution.

The gist of the speculation is that in addition to leveraging its existing assets and expertise in search technologies, IM would allow Google to complete a communication platform that includes Gmail (its Web mail system) and Orkut (its community networking portal).

Google to start unlocking shares Friday

Google's stock has slipped over the past few days, and it has something to do with the expiry of the "Google stock lock-up" period.

Company ``lock-up'' rules have prevented employees from selling shares since the initial public offering two weeks ago. But a select group of insiders can sell for the first time Friday -- which means about 4.5 million of extra Google shares could come pouring into the market.

Search engine Blinkx to challenge Google

Blinkx is growing rapidly. Since its low-key launch at the end of July, some 800,000 people have downloaded the technology.

Hundreds of thousands more are probably using it after downloading Blinkx from other websites or from CDs cover-mounted on magazines. Like Google in its early days, the number of users is multiplying fast. There is huge interest from venture capitalists eager to invest and grab a share of what could be the next hi-tech money-spinner.

Financial analysts lose objectivity over Google

If the trend persists, we may eventually forget the words of doom visited on Google after the search company dropped from its target range of $108 to $135. Not only was Google's IPO declared a dud, complaints abounded that Google had chilled the tech sector, tainted other pending IPOs and stalled the stock market as a whole.
