A man arrested last week on allegations that he stole proprietary source code from the AltaVista search engine 2 years ago is apparently a Microsoft employee working on MSN's Search initiative.

For the past two years, paid search has been increasing at a fast pace. However, the past quarter showed some signs the industry is simmering down. Analysts and industry executives dismiss the idea that paid search is contracting. Instead, they say, paid search may be growing up.

Yahoo's earnings double, but disappoint Wall Street

Yahoo's earnings doubled yesterday, but that disappointed Wall Street investors that were hoping for even more than that. The Web giant posted a profit of $112.5 million, or 8 cents per diluted share, for its fiscal second quarter, which ended June 30.

Google offers more warnings to would-be investors

In a financial document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Google said its shares are at high risk of dropping in value right after the deal -- rather than soaring, as some did during the Internet bubble.

That's largely because of the unusual way Google is setting the price for its initial public offering of stock, or IPO.

Top 5 Internet trends shaping up 2004

Since the beginning of 2004, there appears to be some important trend changes in the Internet landscape, as many industry observers are seeing modifications that, in certain cases, could drastically affect the Internet browser, and various other software or hardware products used daily by Web surfers.

In place of the Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Opera), a strong growth of the Internet is now being observed as "connected executables" or Internet applications that perform various Web services or search requests, are delivered through Internet task-specific applications, and not through the traditional Web browser.
