Howard Stern favors Yahoo over Google

Howard Stern talks about a report he saw on Google and how great it is to work there. On the day when Howard Stern was dumped by four of Citadel Broadcasting’s radio stations due to plugging Sirius Satellite Radio, he also made a nice little plug for Yahoo after commenting on Sunday’s 60 Minutes Google “Infomercial.”

Blinkx unveils desktop search for Apple computers

Search Engine Blinkx will offer a version of its desktop-search for Apple computers next week.

The San Francisco-based company must compete with Apple itself, which already offers tools to find files on the desktop and plans improved search features in its upcoming Tiger OS release in the next several months.

The Apple update, says Blinkx co-founder and CTO Suranga Chandratillake, proves that search on the Mac is still a problem. Blinkx's free downloadable software can be a valuable answer for Mac users, Chandratillake said.

Blinkx's proposition is to give people a way to automatically organize folders of information without much work.

Is MSN launching its own paid search service?

In the last few weeks, rumors were circulating that the new MSN Search would launch at the beginning of 2005. It’s the 5th of January and no word from MSN on a specific launch date, but Andy Beal scooped some news this morning that MSN may be also launching their own paid search division.

Currently MSN Search runs Overture ads in the sponsored links section of their search results and has a contract running with Overture until 2006. However, if you have enough yearly budget, one can buy directly from MSN for a bit of a better PPC price.

MSN then blocks out its own serving of the Overture ad and replaces it with a direct buy MSN Search sponsored link.

Is Google looking for an advertising agency?

Rumors are continuing that Google could be looking for an ad agency. Despite reports that Google has handled its marketing efforts in-house, it turns out that Madison Avenue outsider Crispin has already done some work for the company.

Google, the most popular Internet search engine, hired the Miami ad agency earlier this year to come up with some clever billboards to help it recruit math and computer whizzes.
