My 2 featured articles for the week ending Aug. 3, 2007: Archived blogs for the week of Jul. 30, 2007 1356 - Aug. 1st, 2007 - 3.23 PM EST Google updates its Google Apps On any given day, Google's overall mission is to "better organize the world's information and make it universally accessible to everybody." It should be noted that twice in that mission statement, Google mentions that this is a global effort, not just a problem they are solving only for English-speaking users in the U.S. Of course, that global focus is critical, because about 65 percent of Internet users around the world speak a language other than English. As it happens, the Internet's top 10 languages still only account for around 85 percent of users. The remaining 15 percent represents another 200 million people, give or take... As part of its effort to make Google accessible to more people in their native languages, the company is announcing a number of updates for Google Apps, its customizable suite of hosted communication and collaboration applications for businesses, schools and other organizations. Posted on Businessblog™ 1355 - Jul. 31, 2007 - 5.05 PM EST IAC releases its 2nd quarter results Yesterday, IAC released its second quarter 2007 results, reporting $1.5 billion in revenue, a 6 percent rate of growth over 2006.
This also represents a $136 million in operating income before amortization, compared to $165 million in 2006. Adjusted EPS was $0.31, compared to $0.32 in the year ago period. Free cash flow generated during the first six months of this year was $194 million, with $407 million in net cash provided by operating activities. Operating income declined in the second quarter to $54 million, due in part to an increase in selling and marketing expense. GAAP Diluted EPS for the quarter was $0.32, compared to $0.17 in the prior year period. Revenue in the quarter reflects increased year-over-year contributions from every sector within IAC. Retailing revenue increased slightly, including a modest gain at HSN when excluding America’s Store which shut down on April 3. Transactions revenue reflects strong growth at ServiceMagic and modest growth at Ticketmaster, partially offset by declines at LendingTree which continues to operate in a difficult home loan market. Growth from syndicated search and Fun Web Products drove strong revenue growth in Media & Advertising, while increased transaction volume and membership at Interval and worldwide growth in subscribers at Match drove revenue in Membership & Subscriptions.
