PHP script library for Google AdWords API

Mirchev Ideas announces the availability of the new Google AdWords API PHP Library, a middle-tier resource to access the Google AdWords API.

This library is the first and only tool that turns the interaction with Google AdWords API (Application Programmable Interface) into a simple programming task.

This product hits the market just one month after Google has officially released their AdWords API program. The API allows developers engineer computer programs that interact directly with the AdWords server. This possibility offers advertisers to automate their ad campaigns.

Google AdWords API is a web service based on the SOAP protocol. In a nutshell, custom ad management programs generate requests, encoded in XML format, and use the common HTTP protocol to send data to Google for processing. This setup allows flexibility, but also involves complicated processing.

Google News Beta still testing and improving

Google is continuing to test features on its news aggregation site, wishing to fend off competition from Microsoft.

Google News, still in its test or "beta" phase after launching in 2002, says it will let people specify what categories of news to display on the page, giving an array of choices including results chosen by keyword.

A Google News page posted on Wednesday said: "We've made a number of improvements to Google News that allow you to customise your News front page by creating sections that focus on topics you care about, for instance, your favourite sports team, technology, or celebrity.

You can also design your custom front page by mixing and matching existing standard sections from the 22 regional editions [such as Google News UK] of Google News from around the globe."

Will Yahoo launch its own version of AdSense?

There are many rumors, some of them coming from reliable sources, that Yahoo could enter the contextual advertising market.

According to many, Yahoo is about to create an advertising distribution network that would compete head-on with Google's AdSense.

AdSense is the program that places paid-advertising from Google on millions of private web-sites and Blogs based on keywords found in their content. It is a remarkably popular program as it allows webmasters to passively earn income from their sites.

Yahoo makes some revisions to its directory

Yahoo made revisions to its directory and it now defaults the sorting of the listings by popularity.

By default, Directory site listings are presented sorted by popularity and relevance. Sites that are most popular with users or the most relevant to the category appear at the top of the site listings.

The order of web sites or web documents is based upon Yahoo! Search Technology. If the category is large, the listings will display over multiple pages with pagination displayed at bottom of the page.

More on Google's clustering technology

Google now has a massive eight billion-plus index and is growing fast. That was part of the message from Peter Norvig, Google's director of search quality, who on Tuesday gave a keynote speech here at the Semantic Technology Conference.

Norvig, a former NASA employee and an author of books on artificial intelligence, highlighted several research projects the company is developing to help classify data and improve the relevance of search results.

Those projects focus on adding new clustering capabilities for search results, providing suggestions for related searches, personalizing listings, and returning factual answers to specific questions, Norvig said.

"We want to have a broader bandwidth for that kind of communication," Norvig said. "It's a question of what's the right language."

The correct SEO for MSN Search

It's important to note some of the small differences in SEO elements unique to MSN Search, as the engine strives to have its own identity.

Buried within the help files of the site, there are several wonderful clues to assist web site owners, web site marketing and promotion firms and search engine optimization (SEO) professionals in gaining visibility within MSN search, for themselves or for their clients.

It's quite refreshing to note that Microsoft has documented recognition of the importance of a well designed and optimized site. They even went so far as to state that, if you want a better chance of being indexed properly within this engine, then perhaps you should look into hiring a reputable SEO firm to assist you.

This makes complete sense from MSN's point of view. A professionally optimized site will allow their aptly named spider, MSNbot, to easily read, navigate through and thus relevantly index the web site properly.

By optimizing your web site in accordance with MSN's guidelines, you stand a much better chance of being found when it counts the most - when someone is searching for your goods and services.

Will Yahoo, MSN and Google jump into VoIP?

As the Internet phone business starts taking off, can portals such as Yahoo or AOL be that far behind?

That's one of the big questions that will be on the minds of Internet and telecom luminaries as they gather Monday in San Jose, Calif., for Voice on the Net, a conference dedicated to promoting and exploring VoIP, the fast-growing technology for delivering voice calls over Internet Protocol.

You read correctly! Many people don't know that. Find out more by visiting Press Broadcast -- Click here.

Signs of activity in the space are growing, with America Online planning to enter the crowded VoIP arena later this month with its own phone service. That move has heightened speculation that on the horizon are similar announcements from AOL's biggest Web rivals--Yahoo, Microsoft's MSN and Google.

Will the lure of Internet telephony draw search and portal giants Yahoo, MSN and Google?

As voice over Internet Protocol attracts companies large and small--including America Online--these three giants are taking a close look at the technology.

"We are definitely looking at the space closely," Yahoo spokeswoman Terrell Karlsten said. "We're figuring out how to enhance and expand into the voice space by leveraging those properties."

Google enhances its Desktop Search

Google's newest release of its Desktop Search can now look up text of PDF files and detailed metadata information of multimedia files.

Amazingly enough, Google Desktop Search is set up like the Google homepage, except it searches an index which is kept on your machine and not web based.

Google Desktop Search offerings include a chat search where Google allows you to search your past AOL Instant Message (AIM) conversations through some kind of partnership with AOL ( a current Google partner) but has not been able to index Yahoo and other Instant Messaging history.

Google can also track your email conversations in a fashion similar to GMail “If an email search result is part of a longer thread or conversation, you have access to all the emails in the conversation, without having to sort through your email inbox.”

Nikhil Bhatla, Google product manager says, “We’ve taken the product out of beta because now we have all the file types and features that were high on the list of user requests.”
