Is Google set to acquire Digg?

According to several sources close to the deal, San Francisco-based startup Digg.com has been in recent acquisition talks with a number of companies, one of them being News Corp.

But the company was unable to secure an offer in the price range they were looking for (at least $150 million or more), and Digg could close a Series B round of financing instead.

Rumors of the upcoming financing led News Corp. and possibly others (Google?) to initiate acquisition discussions with Digg, and the talks were subsequently opened up to other interested parties as well.

No formal written offers for Digg were tabled, sources say, because Digg’s minimum sell price was at least $150 million.

One point of controversy was around Digg’s claim of 20 million unique monthly visitors and steep monthly growth, whereas the Comscore’s most recent September report shows only 1.3 million monthly unique visitors and flat growth since April.

The new YPN Portal

The Yahoo Publisher Website just got a new look these past few days, and now offers some added features.

Overall, some of the most visible changes is the look and feel of the new YPN homepage at http://publisher.yahoo.com.

Advertisers who are not beta publishers now have access to more publisher information.

Before this, it was mainly kept behind the publisher login. Search marketers can now access new pages such as free website tools and Yahoo's new "Enhance Your Site" feature which showcases many of the company's products publishers will find useful.

Yahoo also added these two new features: "Drive Traffic to Your Site" and "Build Your Site".

YouTube's potential legal problems?

YouTube has been gathering personal data from its users and sharing it without them knowing about it. While responding to a court subpoena served in May by Viacom subsidiary Paramount Pictures, YouTube shared some data on at least one user to the movie studio's lawyers.

Global Business Listing is the fastest-growing paid inclusion search engine there is today. Click here for more information.

Back in May, lawyers for Viacom's Paramount Pictures convinced a federal judge in San Francisco to issue a subpoena requiring YouTube to turn over details about a user who uploaded dialog from the movie studio's "Twin Towers," according to a copy of the document.

The new Yahoo talent show

“With the launch of its new talent contest, Yahoo demonstrates its serious commitment in continuing to offer the most original and high-quality video content for its users” said David Katz, Head of Yahoo Studios.

Overall, the new Yahoo Talent Show contest is an eight-week online video quizz dedicated in discovering the most original talent on the Internet.

Starting Monday, an open call invites all users to send in their submissions by uploading certain video clips of themselves, in an effort at demonstrating their best talents.

Additionally, a skill-based competition in which participants will compete to be selected as the next Yahoo online celebrity talent will also be integrated to the contest.

The winning entry will be awarded US $50,000 in cash, plus a development deal to star in or produce their own online show on Yahoo.

What's more, the Yahoo Talent Show is a nationwide search to find the next great Internet celebrity. Residents of the 50 United States & District of Columbia who are over the age of 18 can participate.
